Press release -
Camfil's Stinger Isolation Valve for Dust and Fume
Divided into four units, Camfil specializes in HVAC and filter technology, molecular contamination control, gas turbines and dust, mist and fume collection. Camfil Air Pollution Control focuses on our dust, mist and fume collection industry. This industry is heavily regulated all over the world, with especially stringent regulations for combustible dusts. In order to protect the manufacturing processes and its workers where the dust is created, Camfil offers the Stinger explosion isolation valve.
The flow-activated valve prevents an explosion and burning debris from traveling back through the collector’s inlet pipe and into the workspace. The Stinger has been throroughly tested and designed to meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA USA) and EN 16447 (Europe) standards for a range of applications and dust types.
“What makes the Stinger so unique is the lightweight composite blade that saves energy and reacts faster than heavier steel blades in the event of an explosion,” Graeme Bell, VP of Camfil APC Americas, said. “Also, these blades are easy to replace, and the front side is covered with abrasion-resistant rubber sheeting to protect it from wear.”
The passive flow activated design requires less maintenance, and the lightweight flap reduces pressure loss and energy costs. The Stinger is manufactured using an all welded steel contruction to aid in withstanding the pressures seen during a deflagration. Lastly, a self adjusting lock, easy access inspection door and optional valve activation sensor create a seamless maintence opportunity.
The Stinger was rereleased at the beginning of 2018 in the USA with patents pending on Camfil APC’s composite flap design. The composite flap is low in weight with a three millimetre wear resistant, antistatic liner. It is easy to replace and absorbs explosion impact forces aiding in its speed to closure during an event.
Currently, the Stinger is being sold in the USA, Canada and Mexico with plans for European distribution within the next year. To find out more about the Stinger, watch the accompanying promotional video or visit camfilapc.com/products/accessories/stinger/
